Kunstenares Yvonne Dr?Wendel ontdekte dat wij in Nederland niet de enigen zijn die denken dat de stof met rode en witte ruiten - het zogenaamde 'Brabants Bont' - typisch is voor ons land. Nee, de rood-met-witte ruit komt in bijna ieder land voor en wordt in elk van die landen geclaimd als onverveemdbaar cultureel erfgoed:

"The Indian salesman continued to insist that this textile design is Indian and part of his cultural inheritance. Standing in front of a man from India who claims 'my' material as a traditional Indian design made me nervous. From that time onwards I started to ask about this pattern."
