In 1924 schrijft Francis Picabia het script voor de film Entr'acte van regisseur René Clair, die werd vertoond als intermezzo in de - eveneens door Picabia bedachte - dansvoorstelling Relâche. In het 22 minuten durende filmpje vuurt Picabia samen met componist Erik Satie een kanon af, verschijnt hij als ballerina met baard en spelen Marcel Duchamp en Man Ray een potje schaak op een dak:

"It was the height of the surrealist period. Between the two acts there was an important innovation, a performance of René Clair's film Entr'acte, with music by Satie. To the delight of spectators, Satie and Picabia appeared themselves in the film. (...) In the marvelous 1920s, everything went, and the audience was not surprised at the end of the première of Relâche, to see Satie arrive on stage, to the acclaim of his cheering friends, in a little 5 horsepower Citro�n car driven by Picabia."
