Fall I, Los Angeles, 1970: Bas Jan Ader klimt op het dak van zijn huis en laat zich er vanaf rollen. Fall II, Amsterdam, 1970: Bas Jan Ader rijdt met zijn fiets de Amsterdamse grachten in. Broken Fall (organic), 1971: Bas Jan Ader hangt aan de tak van een boom tot hij niet meer kan en los moet laten. Bas Jan Ader was op zoek naar de mislukking. Totdat het een keer echt mis ging:

"His final project was a voyage off to sea in a tiny 12-foot boat, which he sailed without much seaworthy expertise; two likely reasons for his journey's failure. I don't think that he intended to make his sailing journey a success. The impossibility of truly transcending existential facts was central to Aders project, as was succumbing to forces beyond his control. The sea, with all its mythical and romantic associations, and all its real threat and power, would serve as an appropriate landscape for Aders final act of falling."
