Het werk van Hussein Chalayan, enfant terrible van de Engelse modewereld, bevindt zich aan de conceptuele kant van de mode en heeft soms meer weg kunst dan van vormgeving:

"It featured a row of women, the first naked except for a shoulder-length Muslim chador and leather face-mask, the next in a longer chador to the breasts, and so on until, finally, there is a familiar fully shrouded Muslim woman. The chadors, he says, were there to show the effect of nature and nurture."
