De Britse kunstenaar Anthony Gormley - van wie ik in vroeger tijden nogal gecharmeerd was - maakte dit weekend in China een begin met het vijf dagen durende project 'Asian Field'. In zijn serie 'Field' vult de kunstenaar ruimtes over de hele wereld met tienduizenden - stuk voor stuk ter plaatse met de hand gemaakt en dus unieke - terracotta figuurtjes. Na een 'American Field' (1991), een 'European Field' (1993) en het 'Field for the British Isles' (1994) is de beurt nu aan China:

"Asian Field, an immense sculptural installation by the eminent British artist Antony Gormley, will comprise 120.000 hand-sized clay figures made, under the guidance of the artist, by 300 people of all ages from the Huadu District in the north-east of Guangzhou."
