Ruim een week geleden zag ik het in het journaal, dacht "dat is iets voor de notes", en vergat het weer. Het glas-in-lood-raam dat Marc Mulders na dat in De Nieuwe Kerk voor de Sint-Jan kathedraal in Den Bosch maakte, bevat een afbeelding van een van de vliegtuigen die op 11 september 2001 de Twin Towers in vlogen. Op zijn website legt Mulders uit waarom hij deze actuele afbeelding aan de eeuwenoude kerk toevoegde:

"Every artist who deals with a biblical theme in his own time will realize that both his hands and his soul are influenced in this work due to the presence of a 'current nerve' and that this is translated into a personal iconography. The artist will also be aware that his daily work has suddenly been interrupted by a major and dramatic event that has taken place beyond the confines of his studio; he will want to record and document that suffering and human failing in order to prevent it from being forgotten. (...) That is why I chose, when composing the window The Last Judgment in the traditional segments Heaven/Purgatory/Hell, to show an image of what actually speaks to us now and deals with the expression 'hell on earth'."
